As much as I am smitten about the Gucci Bamboo Bag, I have never really got to know about the history of this icon.

The modern day Gucci Bamboo bag

The Bamboo bag was an idea from the brand’s founder Guccio Gucci in the 1940s. During the World War II period, there was a shortage of materials but bamboo was in abundance. Guccio Gucci found a way to mould the bamboo into a sturdy horseshoe shape, appropriate as the bag handle and introduced elements of bamboo into Gucci’s bag design.
