You do not need to be a domestic goddess to be able to prepare Japanese food. The Ebi Ten Maki (Fried Shrimp Sushi) and Coffee Jelly are really simple, and taste good enough to fool everyone. Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me. 😉

Ebi Ten Maki

Ingredients (make 3-4 rolls):

  • 225g or 1 cup of sushi ice
  • 250-300ml water
  • Pre-packed sushi rice vinegar mix
  • CP Torpedo Shrimps (pre-packed Japanese fried ebi)
  • Sesame and Japanese seaweed bits
  • 3 sheets of Japanese seaweed (nori)

1. Cook the sushi rice. Then add the sushi rice vinegar mix into the cooked rice and mix well. Leave the rice to cool.

2. Deep-fry the Torpedo Shrimps.

3. Toast the nori very briefly.

4. Place a nori on the rolling mat and wet your hands with a bit of rice vinegar. Next spread a thin layer of sushi rice on top of the nori sheet. Sprinkle sesame seeds and Japanese seaweed bits on the rice.

5. Flip the mixture upside down, with the rice at the back and nori sheet on top. Spread a thin strip of mayonaise and placed 2 fried Torpedo Shrimps on top of the mayonaise, with the tail of the shrimp facing outwards.

6. Roll the sushi and slice into small pieces.

Coffee Jelly

Ingredients (make 4 servings)

  • 2 cups of coffee
  • 1 tablespoon of gelatin powder
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • Ice-cream/condensed milk for topping

1. Mix gelatin powder and 4 Tbsp of water in a small cup.

2. Put coffee, sugar, and the gelatin in a sauce pan.

3. Stir well on low heat until sugar and gelatin dissolves.

4. Strain the mixture and pour into serving cups or containers.

5. Cool them in the refrigerator until set.

6. Top with ice-cream or drizzle with some milk before serving.
