It may be summer time now but it’s never too early to start planning for your winter wardrobe. Last week, we were invited to H&M‘s spanking new showroom in Singapore to preview their upcoming collection for Fall. In case you have missed the big news due to some reason or another, yes you heard it right, H&M is opening it’s first store in Singapore in early September this year!

The extensive women’s collection was divided into 4 themes: Carnaby, New England, Simplicity and Shadowland. Take a look at the look book vs the real stuff!

Largely characterised by brown, wine and orange shades, the Carnaby section is rather sophisticated and classy. I was told that it was inspired by the 60s.

New England

As the name suggests, New England is inspired by the preppy British style, accentuated by old-school plaids and retro polka dots. I also noted that there could be a revival of wide leg pants!

For those who prefer lighter colour palette, the Simplicity collection could appeal to you with the light and soft pieces. Think Calvin Klein.

My favourite collection gotta be Shadowland, which was a combination of romance and sexy elements. Here, I see intricate lace, outrageous fringe and sexy slinky jumpsuits!

Here are my two favourite pieces from Shadowland! A sleek Kimono-style jacket and a vintage-inspired lace blouse!

The accessories section was equally exciting. I saw quite a number of jewellery with tassles, silk scarves and preppy satchels, which are befitting of the 4 themes highlighted in the collection.

The H&M Singapore office is now working hard on the upcoming store at Orchard Building. With 3 levels housing H&M Men and Women, as well as Divided and Trend for the youth, the Singapore store would be comparable to other stores in Shanghai and Hong Kong. The planned opening date would be in early September – part of the Autumn Winter collection previewed here would be available, as well as other new collections that are launching later.

No news on a special collection at this point – I was thinking ala Kylie Minogue for H&M launch in Shanghai or Comme des Garçon for Tokyo – but does it matter? Our long-awaited dream has materialised. H&M IS GOING TO BE IN SINGAPORE!
