By now, we have all seen and gushed at Kate Middleton’s elegant wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton of McQueen. Here’s a picture of the ravishing princess again!

I believe brides-to-be from all over the world are now considering a gown with sleeves, just like Kate! In a sea of strapless gowns, she has proven that one can look very elegant and sophisticated with lace sleeves.  If you have conservative grandmas or mother-in-law and you don’t wanna spill too much cleavage on your wedding day, here are some modern gowns and styles with a traditional touch.

1. Satin Faced Organza Gown with Illusion Piece from White by Vera Wang

This is actually a strapless gown sewn with hand-appliqued lace, accompanied with an illusion sleeved piece that is removable. So, it’s like getting two looks for the price of one (US$1300). I have written about White by Vera Wang previously, this is a more affordable collection available at David’s Bridal.

2. Monique Lhuillier Catherine Platinium Collection

This dress is from the designer’s upcoming Spring 2012 collection. The gown evokes a very vintage feel, with ivory re-embroidered and chantilly lace and hand appliqued A-line skirt. I can imagine the bride looking very radiant and outstanding with a wedding dress like this.

3. Jacquelin Exclusive Short Sleeve Lace Dress

This is a gorgeous dress, although it is somewhat different from Kate’s gown. The all over appliqued lace dress is not too much of an overkill because of its short flutter sleeves and plunging V-neck line (ok, that’s cleavage). With a slim A-line skirt, I can envision this dress to be very flattering for many brides.

4. Caroline Herrera Evelyn Ivory Chantilly Gown

Another short-sleeved gown, this looks a bit more contemporary, tending towards futuristic, as compared to the vintage feel that the previous gowns exude. Also from a Spring 2012 collection, this dress has a romantic sweet-heart neckline and a mermaid cut with chantilly lace at the “tail”.

5. Tadashi Shoji Lace & Chiffon Gown

At long last, a more affordable option – definitely relevant to those who would like to buy your own gowns. This cream dress is retailing at US$548, although the dress sizes available are US size 8 and above. The lovely vintage-inspired gown has a low-cut lacy back and soft drapey chiffon skirt. This is also a rather unique design and could good wedding dress inspiration for brides-to-be!

6. Tracy Reese Greenbow Lace Gown

If you are thinking of a bohemian-theme wedding party, perhaps you could trade lace for crotchet and go with this bridal look styled by BHLDN. According to reviews, this affordable wedding dress (US$600) is great on curvy girls too. With loose curls and a fascinator or floral headband, I can imagine the wedding to be held in lush greenery, with a hippie and casual ambience!
