First day at NYC, I decided to ease myself into the city by doing what I do best – shopping. Those who followed me on Twitter or Facebook might recall that I bought a US$100 Ricky’s NYC shopping voucher on GiltCity for only US$60.

I took this opportunity to do some beauty shopping, at a whopping 40% off!

There are several Ricky’s in Manhattan, I visited the one nearest to me at East 8th Street.

It looks like a giant beauty grocery store. Too much of everything like shower and hair products, skincare, nail products, hair accessories etc. I also noted that they sold SPANX there.

Get what I meant when I say ‘too much of everything’?

Crazy wigs in all shades and colours.

While Ricky’s stocked numerous products under one roof, the brand of face makeup items were rather limited. I only spotted Stila cosmetics there. If you are looking for a while range of nail products and shower, hair or skincare products and gadgets, Ricky’s is a great place. I saw so many different types of combs, curlers, ceramic curlers etc there. Another downside that I observed is the lack of “testers” or “samples” unlike our local drugstores or beauty counters. You have to do your research or trust your gut feel if you are buying any makeup or skincare there.

My US$100 haul… Mostly nail stuff like Sally Hansen’s Salon Effects nail stickers (like Minx), Crackle nail polishes from OPI and Mattese Elite, nail colours, top coat and remover in case I intend to DIY my nails here. In terms of skincare products, I purchased the Neutrogena Rapid & Clear Treatment Pads and Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask. I also got a few packs of hair bungees perfect for the power ponytail, as well as “magnetic hair curlers”. Not sure how effective are these curlers as I have not used it yet.

My nails with the Sally Hansen’s nail stickers! They are terribly easy to use and easy on the wallet too (US$9.99). I didn’t add a layer of top coat but placed my nails under the hair dryer for some brief ‘heat treatment’. Let’s see how long these nails last!
