Given that the year-end party season is approaching, I have been searching for some makeup inspirations. Most of the time, we see runway looks or campaign photos from makeup brands which feature Caucasian models. The downside is, Caucasian women typically have more distinct facial features and what work for them might not necessary work for Chinese women.

So, I scoured around the web for makeup looks on Chinese female celebrities.

(from left) Angela Zhang, Zhang Ziyi

Both celebrities look like sweet princesses! As Chinese tend to have short lashes, to give your eyes some oomph, false lashes, if not a really effective mascara, are essential. Both Angela Zhang and Zhang Ziyi sported shimmery taupe eye shadow base on the eyelid and the lower lashline, with a darker brown shade below the crease. This is followed by liquid eyeliner with winged tip. Angela Zhang is wearing a shimmery light pink lip colour, while Zhang Ziyi donned a more bubble-gum pink shade.

(from left) Fan Bing Bing, Myolie Wu

Fan Bing Bing has natural big and doe-like eyes. Her eye makeup looks pretty simple, with thicker eyeliner on the eyelid and water line and a well-defined orange lips. We could try to emulate this look with fake eyelashes! As for Myolie Wu, I like the choice of pink blusher and sweet pink lip colour. Her curly (or is that crimped?) up-do is an idea for the party look too!

(from left) Chiling Lin, Yang Mi

I am sure we are all familiar with the power lips. Chiling Lin is wearing a deep red rouge and matching nail polish, a completely lethal combination I believe, while Chinese actress Yang Mi is wearing a bright pink lip colour. Both actresses wore winged eyeliner, but Chiling Lin does not have any eye shadow on, giving her a edgy and sexy Oriental look. Yang Mi, on the other hand, wore a dash of taupe eye shadow to contour her big eyes.

(from left) Michelle Kwan, Maggie Q

I am not sure whether fielding Maggie Q is appropriate considering that she is of mixed parentage, but both Michelle Kwan and Maggie Q wore light smokey eyes here. Believe it or not, it was rather hard to find photos of Chinese celebrities in smokey eyes. Both ladies did not wear falsies, and chose lip shades that were close to their natural lip colours.

I thought I should include photos of Asian (or Chinese) smokey eyes that went awry. That’s a balanced view, yeah? And excuse me while I go and master the art of smudging the bottom lashline now…
