I was at the Longchamp Spring/Summer 2012 press preview a while ago and out of the dazzling array of bags in the room – apparently more than 130 bags according to the PR – the understated Le Pliage Cuir caught my eye.

I am sure all of us are familiar with the famed Le Pliage bag from Longchamp. The simple folding canvas bag, which was inspired by the Japanese art of origami, has sold more than 13 million worldwide since 1993. Now, leather lovers (such as yours truly) can rejoice because the Le Pliage is finally available in soft metis leather! And yes, these leather bags are foldable too.

The Le Pliage Cuir collection is available in 8 delicious shades, and 5 sizes: travel bag, two totes, shopper and pouch.

While the shape of the leather collection is closely similar to the canvas version, right down to the zip closure and button flap, the leather version also comes with a practical removable shoulder strap and a fabric printed lining. While the Le Pliage Cuir is perhaps slightly heavier than the canvas ones, it is definitely lighter than many other full leather bags.

I believe this is a go-to bag for business travelers and working ladies, who need a portable and presentable bag for both work and play. I can imagine myself throwing my laptop, work documents and other necessities and would still look classy and sophisticated with the signature bag in timeless leather material.
