Admittedly, I am a typical cautious dresser. I used to follow rules, such as how you shouldn’t wear more than 3 colours in your entire outfit. But little did I know that in a fickle fashion, rules can be broken. Colour-blocking continues to go big this year, and instead of investing in dresses or outfits that do the job for you, why don’t we mix and match with our existing acquisitions?

This is an example how you can wear more than 3 colours in an outfit and still look fairly decent.

For cautious people like me, I would be comfortable matching pastels on pastels, which is an emerging trend in 2012.

You can go head-to-toe pastels for a feminine and sweet aura. Alternatively, you can also try pastel colour against a bright hue. When in doubt, go for tan or beige colours for your bags and shoes.

The skill of color-blocking can be integrated in our office wear too. Pastels are always safe starting points, if you are concerned about appearing to bright and loud in a serious and traditional work environment.

On another note, I just realised that Looklet is closing, i.e. I will have no “models” for such styling posts in future. Till I find another similar website, Looklet, you will be missed!
