I received these two products – shu uemura Smooth Fit Fluid Foundation and Lancôme Maqui Blanc Miracle Foundation Compact a while ago and thought that the videos accompanying these products were a great watch.

The correct way to apply liquid foundation, as demonstrated by shu uemura.

The next two videos are in Mandarin, but with English subtitles. They showcase the strengths of the Lancôme Maqui Blanc Miracle foundation compact in a very upbeat and interesting manner!

Amazing sebum-control. Must watch!

I tried on these 2 foundations on each side of my face. This is not meant to be a direct comparison, given that most of the time, liquid foundation would provide better coverage and finish than the foundation compact. But do note that Lancôme Maqui Blanc Miracle foundation gives a really smooth finish, while shu uemura’s Face Architect Smooth Fit liquid foundation offers more radiance and glow. I applied both products with a foundation brush.

shu uemura Face Architect Smooth Fit Fluid Foundation (S$65 for 30ml)

Comparing the Smooth Fit Fluid Foundation with the other 3 liquid foundations I own, I find the texture of shu uemura’s closely similar to Clarins Skin Illusion. Burberry Beauty Sheer Foundation is a bit thicker but more sheer in terms of coverage. Shiseido’s foundation is thin and runnier.

I like the packaging of Smooth Fit because it is lighter and easier to carry around. It gives medium good coverage when I apply with a brush, with smooth finish and glow.  I would say that it is a close fight with Clarins Skin Illusion, which is currently my go-to liquid foundation.

Lancôme Maqui Blanc Miracle Foundation Compact (S$65 for the powder refill, S$27 for the case)

I use this foundation on its own, rather than over liquid foundation as I don’t fancy wearing such thick makeup. This foundation applies very smoothly and is long-lasting. Due to my oily skin, my makeup tends to “melt” after about 8 hours. However, with some blotting in between, the Maqui Blanc Miracle didn’t wear off much after the long period of wear.

While I usually use a brush to apply this foundation, the dual-sided sponge provided is really neat. One side helps to “catch” the powder while the other more velvety and denser side helps to blend smoothly.

Before I go, renown makeup blogger Michelle Phan will be in town this week and she is hosting a makeup workshop at Tangs on Sunday afternoon (29 Jul 2012). You can check out this event to learn some of her makeup and beauty secrets.
