If you think we are done with the whole “shatter” nail effect, just hang on a minute and check out the new paradigm of crackle nail polish – Crocodile leather effect.
Part of Dior’s Fall/Winter 2012 makeup collection, the Golden Jungle Vernis Duo attempts to bring safari chic to our finger tips!
The nail polish duo comes with a gold base colour and a khaki top coat. This set is now available at Dior counters and cost $47 a set.
The gold base coat looks great on its own! Pardon me for not removing the excess colour at the cuticle.
You can apply 1 or 2 coats of gold shade and wait for the gold shade to be semi-dry. Be careful not to apply the top coat when the base colour is still wet, because that would clump the brush. Apply a thin layer of the khaki top coat thereafter and wait for the crocodile effect to happen.
You need to be very patient as this croc effect takes time to crackle. I waited for about 10-15 minutes for the effect to appear before applying the top coat.
A thin layer of top coat creates fine lines like these. If you want the croc effect to be more distinct, you could apply a thicker layer of top coat. However, be prepared to wait longer for the cracks to appear.
I think this is a fun nail polish set to own, and the price is really reasonable (S$47 for 2 polishes). However, you need to be very very patient when applying the colours as the crackle effect is not as instantaneous as that of OPI shatter.
