We always like to wake up with our skin looking supple and hydrated, as if it is ready to brave the brand new day.

Recently, I received two moisturizing masks – one from Kiehl’s and the other from NARS (which is now available at Tangs Orchard!). Both products have similar aims so I couldn’t help but put them side by side.

Both products aim to plumps and hydrate your skin, has gel-like texture and you are able to leave them on your face overnight like a sleep masque.

In terms of texture, NARSskin Aqua Gel Luminous Mask is gel-like, but more milky. On the other hand, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque has a more watery consistency.

A disclaimer before we start, whilst both products can be used as a “sleeping mask”, I did not apply the masks overnight because I had difficulty sleeping with a layer of gel on my face.

NARSskin Aqua Gel Luminous Mask (S$58, 75ml)

Packed in a slim tube, the packaging is travel friendly, and very convenient for dispensing of the product. The milky cream has a rather strong fragrance, but spreads easily on the skin. You are not supposed to rub the product into your skin, but just apply a thick layer and leave it on for a while.

The mask would turn a bit tacky after a while but it does give the skin a moisture boost! This mask can be used 2 to 3 times weekly. I checked on the ingredients and was informed that NARSskin mask is free of synthetic fragrance, paraben and alcohol.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque (S$55, 125ml)

The tub packaging works due to the watery texture of the product, but I envision it to be less travel-friendly. The masque does not have a distinct smell, although I experienced a fleeting tingling sensation when I first applied on my face. Nonetheless, this feeling quickly dissipated and there was no redness or irritation.

Similar to the NARSskin product, the mask turned tacky after a while and after wiping off the remnants, I was left with hydrated and supple skin. Kiehl’s recommends that we use this masque once a week. The masque contains some alcohol which are probably plant-derived (Propylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol) but is free of silcone, paraben, fragrance and colourant.

Verdict

Both products offered similar effect on my skin after use with no redness or irritation. Therefore, comparing it based on price-to-volume ratio or texture, my preference would go to Kiehl’s masque. NARSskin’s product, on the other hand, had a stronger scent which I did not fancy.
