Marion from France asked me on Facebook to recommend places to shop for long cocktail dresses in Singapore. She has only been here for 2 months and was going to attend a wedding event. Her budget was about S$300.

I gave her 4 recommendations:

Dress Sense: The store has tonnes of glamorous, well-made cocktail dresses. For those with limited budget, you could rent the dress for your event. Rental rates typically range from S$150 and up, while the retail price of the dresses usually cost more than S$600.

Daniel Yam: This homegrown designer is well-known for his fine evening dresses. I remember trying to look for my prom night dress at their store many, many years ago!

I included 2 vintage stores because I noticed quite a number of unique cocktail dresses there recently.

Deja Vu Vintage: I have been to the store at Millenia Walk and saw many interesting vintage dresses that were in mint condition! Prices typically range about S$200-400 for each dress.

Dustbunny Vintage: I have actually visited her showroom – in a house at Tiong Bahru – many many years ago. Now, Dustbunny Vintage has expanded and is located at Bukit Purmei Road. Other than many lovely dresses, you can also get some style advice from the store owner, Pia, who is truly a fashionista, always looking good in different outfits.

What would your suggestions be?
