Have you given perfumes to your friends or loved ones before? I thought they make very good gifts – perfumes are seen as rather luxurious in general, and they tend to be more personal. It’s as if you are telling the receiver that they are special to you.

The above are the new perfumes launched in the market recently. I will try to associate a personality to each fragrance to make your perfume-gifting exercise a lot easier!

For the sweet girl-next-door who loves pretty things: BCBG Max Azria Bon Chic

The blooming flower bottle cap is already a show stopper. With its beautifully designed fragrance bottle, this is definitely a safe choice that would be well-liked by any female. The scent is however, floral fruity and I believe that would appeal more specifically to the young romantic sweetie pies .

BCBG Max Azria Bon Chic is exclusively available at Changi Airport, priced at S$78 (50ml) and S$108 (100ml) respectively.

For the sexy couple: Gucci Guilty Black Pour Homme and Gucci Guilty Black Pour Femme

Get this as a his-and-her perfume, perhaps for a pair of newly-engaged or newly-wed couple. After all, the Gucci Guilty had been heralded as the scents of 21st Century seduction – for the thrill seekers looking for something addictive, provocative and indulging.

So, the message is clear. If you are thinking of getting the Gucci Guilty, make sure you know the receiver well enough and they will be able to accept the hidden message in this perfume. The scent is wild, flirty and intoxicating – definitely only catered for certain personalities and preferences.

Gucci Guilty Black Pour Homme retails at S$105 (5oml) while the Black Pour Femme is priced at S$120 (50ml).

For the sporty girl – Eau de Lacoste

The cute bottle is inspired by a tennis ball, and the scent is a fruity creamy concoction suitable for the day. I would imagine it to be a fragrance of choice for someone after work-out and games. This is a good gift idea for a sporty colleague or friend, especially if you have given her enough sportswear, equipment or shopping vouchers over the past few years.

Price information for the fragrance is not available.

For the formal and capable lady boss – Desire by Dolce & Gabbana

I think the shape of the bottle oozes substance – it is black but architectural, complete with matte gold details and feels rather heavy. Nonetheless, the scent is not too overpowering. In fact, this perfume smells fresh and sophisticated, definitely one that is well-accepted in the corporate world. This is perhaps due to its top notes of mandarin, lychee and bergamot juxtoposing with the base notes of sandalwood and musk.

Desire by Dolce & Gabbana is priced at S$112 (30ml), S$151 (50ml) and S$190 (75ml).

For the fun-loving and unconventional girlfriend- Hugo Red

For the record, Hugo Red is a very popular men’s cologne. Nonetheless, I tried the scent and love it instantly. This is a summery scent with strong bursts of citrus notes. There was nary a hint of heavy spice that is characteristic of many men’s fragrances. The bottle, which is reminiscent of a utilitarian water tumbler, would appear quirky from a woman’s perspective.

In short, this could be a good one for the sassy lady who loves to try new things and doesn’t give a hoot about what others think.

Hugo Red EDT retails at S$74 (40ml), S$90 (75ml) and S$129 (150ml).
