This is definitely not my first time discussing about red rouge, but it is definitely time to celebrate this timeless lip shade again, in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of Rouge Dior.

Natalie Portman loves Rouge Dior too!

The Rouge Dior was born in 1953 at 30 Avenue Montaigne, Paris. The first lipstick was named “9″, which was a full-bodied timeless red shade – Dior calls it a “timeless, mythical carmine“. This shade resurface later as “99″, and again as “999″ 10 years ago. This year, in line with the 60th anniversary of Rouge Dior, “999″ has been relaunched again.

“I adore red, it is the colour of life.”

Historically, red was worn as a sign of social status and vitality. Christian Dior created a revolution in red, a symbol for feminine empowerment and the art of seduction. He advised all women to wear red, to light up their complexion and their style.

“Rouge is the colour of power.”

I personally love how easy it is to be empowered and “create desire” (in Monsieur Dior’s words) by applying a bold shade of red, keeping the rest of makeup simple and understated. Indeed, never leave home without your rouge.

I hope you love this little piece of history today. Check out the little video below that highlights the power and seduction of red lips.
