Two of my great food loves are coffee and ice cream. During my younger days, I could savour three large scoops of ice-cream at one go – although this is a phase that I have grown out of and hopefully would not revisit again.

One’s warm and bitter, the other is cold and sweet. It’s the perfect juxtaposition you could have at the end of a meal, or on a warm summer afternoon.

I had the opportunity to attend a workshop by Mr Eduardo Vastolo, Barista Trainer from Illy Coffee and he taught us three ways to make ice cream coffee using Haagen-Dazs ice-cream.

Here’s my creation – Chocolate Hazelnut and Macadamia Ice Latte!

1. All you need: Cold milk, one scoop of Haagen-Dazs Chocolate Hazelnut Brittle ice-cream, one scoop of Macadamia Nut ice-cream, one shot of espresso

2. Froth the milk.

3. Blend the ice-cream and espresso together for a smooth consistency.

4. Pour the blended mixture onto a cup, followed by the cold milk foam. Voila!

My drink tasted like latte smoothie. It was delicious and so easy to prepare.

Meanwhile, Haagen-Dazs has three special ice-cream coffee creations, in conjunction with the launch of their new Chocolate Hazelnut Brittle ice-cream flavour.

(from left) Chocolate Hazelnut Ice Latte, Macchiato Brittle, Cafe Brittle Sunrise

Chocolate Hazelnut Ice Latte (S$11.90): This drink was where I copied my recipe from – now you know I ain’t that creative after all! Instead of using macadamia nut ice-cream, Haagen-Dazs uses two scoops of Chocolate Hazelnut Brittle ice-cream to blend this drink. It tastes less sweet but has a stronger taste of chocolate.

Macchiato Brittle (S$13.90): This is an interesting mixture of hot and cold. You have a steamy espresso shot, followed by a scoop of Cappucino Truffle ice-cream,  milk foam and Chocolate Hazelnut Brittle ice-cream, finally topped off with some decadent whipped cream. Best to be shared with friends.

Cafe Brittle Sunrise (S$12.90): This is created using layers of espresso, frothy milk and ice-cream. Equally decadent.

These three creations are available at all Haagen-Dazs outlets from now till 14 November 2013. If you miss them, you could always buy their ice-cream and DIY these recipes at home!
