Power Palettes (not Power Plates)… that’s my definition for a makeup palette packed with the essential colours for a quick make up look – eye shadows, cheek colours and rouge.

Today I will introduce two such palettes, coincidentally limited edition collaborations. The first one is from Bobbi Brown‘s partnership with American fashion designer L’Wren Scott and is newly launched this Spring. The second one is a release last year from NARS x Guy Bourdin collaboration.

Named after the Amnesia roses grown by L’Wren Scott at her Loire Valley chateau, this palette feels and hold like a notebook with a beautiful impressionistic sketch of the fashion designer.

At first glance, this is a versatile palette with a mix of intense eye colours and wearable sheer shades. The blush and pot rouge are perfect for a natural look. However, upon testing the colours, I feel that the eye shadows are more powdery but buildable – this is probably good for novices who can try building up on the eye makeup gradually to achieve the right colour intensity.

The colours were unveiled at L’Wren’s Spring 2014 Fashion Show during London Fashion Week. Here are some of the looks on the runway, put together with shades from Amnesia Rose.

The inspiration of the season’s collection was 16th century Japanese screen, hence eye colours used were sparkling (mostly Silver Lilac), with a natural rosy blush and neutral pout.

Launched in November last year, I don’t think this palette is available at NARS counters here anymore. Nonetheless, I like the ingenious 2-layer design and I observed that that colours are all essential shades suitable for most skin tones.

For the eye shadows, you have Naiade as a base and highlighter, Jezebel as the contour on the crease, and Pandora on the upper lash line. Deep Throat blush provides a light rosy tint but you could contour your cheekbones further with the Laguna bronzing powder.

Top up with a dash of Larger than Life lip gloss in Deep Throat – a light translucent gloss and you are good to go with a mild, everyday look.
