Almost every skincare brand in Asia has a whitening range. But when it comes to whitening, different people have different needs. Some just want a correction of skin tone, some wants radiance and some wants to lighten spots and scars.

Today, I shall introduce 3 different products that I find helpful in lightening scars. And yes, these 3 products come in different price ranges and therefore there is a product for different budgets!

SPLURGE: SK-II Cellumination Aura Essence (S$199 for 30ml)

All you need is just one to two pumps each time, and the Cellumination Aura Essence would help to restore radiance on your skin. Most importantly, it is capable of lightening redness and acne scars in 1-2 weeks.

The serum is lightweight and easily absorbed.  One tip of application, try to massage the serum gently to your skin or the problem area. Massaging helps to break up some of the scar tissues and may aid in the healing process.

I use it twice daily, in the morning and at night, before applying the moisturizer. It does not fully eliminate the marks but has lightened them quite significantly.

SAVE: Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solution Clearly Corrective White Hydrating & Clarifying Masque (S$90 for 6 sheets)

A sheet mask is a quick fix to achieving whitening impact because it contains concentrated amount of serum. The Clearly Corrective White series from Kiehl’s feature three key ingredients- Activated C, Peony Extract and White Birch and the masque contains the equivalent of 3 weeks’ use of the brand’s acclaimed Dark Spot Solution.

This masque is hydrating, and a quick solution to achieving a healthy glow. Scars are slightly lighter after using the mask, due to the concentrated amount of Dark Spot Solution.

It is advised that you leave the mask on the skin for about 15 minutes, and use it max two times per week. If this product works for you, you could also incorporate the Dark Spot Solution (S$90 for 30ml) in your skincare regime too.

STEAL: Cococare 100% Cocoa Butter (US$1.79 for 28g)

Available at, all natural cocoa butter is said to be able to reduce scars and stretch marks, and are good as moisturizers. And yes, you read it right, it only costs US$1.79 for a hefty 28g of product!

Cococare’s cocoa butter product looks like a gigantic lip balm and is waxy in texture. I tried to apply a little bit on the skin and massage the ingredients so that it could get absorbed.

It does have healing properties but as with most natural solutions, you need to be very patient. I saw some slightly lightening of marks after continuous usage of more than 2 weeks.
