Some of you might not be familiar with the US brand, which hauls from NYC. Tarte Cosmetics is a cruelty-free brand that offers healthy, eco-chic beauty products formulated without parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, triclosan, and synthetic fragrances. That sound like a “dream come true” for many of us who are increasingly more particular about the ingredients in our beauty products, don’t you think?
The brand is now stocked at Sephora stores here in Singapore. I will be reviewing their best sellers in this post. Don’t you love their natural-looking packaging?
(From left) Clean Slate Poreless 12-hr Perfecting Primer, Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation (in light medium honey) and Maracuja Creaseless Concealer
The Clean Slate Poreless 12-hr Perfecting Primer (S$47) is clear base that helps to create a smoother canvas before you apply the foundation. It is easy to apply and the product contains natural fruit-and plant-derived extracts to deliver antiaging and skin-restorative benefits to your skin.
I applied the primer, foundation and concealer on my face.
Both the Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation (S$60) and Maracuja Creaseless Concealer (S$39) are cream products . The foundation is quite lightweight and long-lasting when used against a primer. For oily skin types, Amazonian clay minimizes oil in and around pores to keep the makeup in place. This could be the reason for its longevity. The foundation has decent coverage too. As for the concealer, I feel that it is thicker and doesn’t conceal as well as my HG – NARS Radiance Creamy Concealer.
I was given two shades of the Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush (S$45) – Achiote (right) and Blissful (left). Blissful is a light warm peach that doesn’t show up much on my yellow skin. I prefer Achiote, which is a stronger flush of honeysuckle, giving you a healthy glow and radiance.
The Brow Architect (S$39) is a brow pencil that helps you shape and fill your brows. I received the “Fair-Light” shade which is a little too light for me. But I was able to compensate by filling in a bit more to have a stronger darker color.
Check out the difference after applying Blush in Achiote and filling in my brows with the Brow Architect.
Next, I was glad that Tarte sent me the Lights, Camera, Flashes Statement Mascara (S$37) as I have read a lot of good reviews! The brush contain soft and short bristles, as well as firma-flex bristles. The former helps to coat each lash perfectly, while the latter helps to lengthen and separate the lash. As a result, you get long, voluminous lashes without clumping. I typically use it over a mascara base – Majolica Majorca Lash Bone Black Fibre – and the Tarte mascara stays on well and has minimal smudging. I noticed that when I wear this mascara out, my mom would ask if I was wearing falsies.
Also added eye liner and a wee cream eye shadow for my day-to-day makeup look.
Tada – complete look with a neutral lipstick.
Last but not least, the Pure Maracuja Oil (S$72 for 50ml) is a 100% pure organic oil that is good as a moisturizer. It doesn’t have a smell of essential oil – to my disappointment – but the oil is light and easily absorbed, suitable for combination and oily skin. I have not used it for a long enough period of time but it doesn’t break me out.
The full range of Tarte Cosmetics is now available at Sephora Singapore stores. I love almost all the products that I received – probably except the concealer which I was a bit disappointed with despite rave reviews online. However, from a consumer point-of-view, I would purchase the Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation, Brow Architect and Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush.
