Today, I would like to introduce Adlena, our new contributor on MsGlitzy.com. Some of you may be familiar with her – after all, she had shown us her makeup pouch 2 Christmases ago.
Adlena recently became a Mum and she will be sharing with us some Mummy beauty and fashion tips on the blog. I’m very excited to read her posts! I hope you’ll enjoy them too.
Five months after I had my baby, Keri, I must say I’m missing my glowing pregnancy skin.
In my early stages of pregnancy I was warned of the perils of being pregnant; be prepared for crazy breakouts on your chest and neck like I had, recalled one fellow mummy friend. I had freckles popping up all over my face!, said the other.
Much to their chagrin, I was one of the few lucky ones: for the whole 40 weeks, my skin had never been better. My “kuali”(read: oily wok) face was non existent and I could get by entire days just with translucent powder, blusher and eyeliner. Yep, no concealer, no foundation whatsoever.Thank you Keri for making mummy pretty, I would say quietly to myself as I rubbed my belly.
Now that she’s out, I’m not saying my skin took to a sudden worse, but it’s just not as radiant and oil-free as before. No thanks to late night feedings and just general ennui and fatigue of having to manage a small business while juggling the needs of an infant and doing household chores on a daily basis.
So what can I do to hide at least some of those imperfections just so my clients and co-workers won’t think that I’m going to crumble in front of them from exhaustion just by looking at my face?
I have six skincare saving graces:
1. MAC under-eye concealer
I don’t have to say much about why this comes on the top of my list, do I? I like this better than the pots because of the wand applicator. It makes it a cinch to just dot some under my eye and let’s face it, it’s a lot more hygienic.
2. YSL Beaute Le Teint Touche Eclat UV
One pump of this liquid foundation each time is all I need to cover the entire face. This came highly recommended by my friend and makeup maestro, Larry Yeo. On more sallow-looking days, I will mix it with a squeeze of Biotherm’s White D-Tox CC Glow Color Correction Smoothing Base (SPF 50) so not only I get a boost of color but also UV protection as well. And I finish with MAC Translucent Compact Powder, and a touch of Dior Addict Gloss in 684 for those important work meetings.
3. Olay White Radiance Intensive Brightening Serum
Once again, a product Larry swears by. It’s a pleasant-smelling, light pre-foundation serum with ingredients that can allegedly inhibit minor acne breakouts. I just use more of it a few days before and after when I know the pimples start to pop out.
Five months post-baby but my body hasn’t got back to pre-baby shape. The same can be said of my puffy face. So, for a little help, a few pumps and a quick lifting massage on my jaw and neck area and that’s it. I mean, even if it’s not apparent, at least it works for me, psychologically.
5. For Beloved One Melasleep Whitening Vitamin C Essence
I noticed spots that were not there before pre-baby, which babycenter.co.uk says it’s normal: pigmentation intensifies due to hormonal changes. Therefore, this is my before-bed must, thanks to the highly stabilized Vitamin C and patented O.D.A white, lambskin and Melaclear content.
6. Jurlique Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator
I went nuts when I was in Perth for my baby-moon last year and stocked up on Jurlique products. This is my all-time fave. It’s not your conventional exfoliator with beads but a liquid consistency in which you apply post-cleansing, leave to work for 5 minutes before washing off. The skin feels smoother to the touch and products that come after seem to be absorbed much faster too.
