For this year’s party, you can consider ditching your usual chiffon/prom dresses or those sequin numbers. One dress-up idea I have for you to experiment is this year’s season trend: the Cut-Outs.
Indeed, the Cut-Out style has proliferated most of the trendy pieces this Summer and now they are “invading” the party frocks. If you would like to explore something chic and flirty this year, here are some dresses worth considering.
You have already made a bold statement with the cut-out patterns, so neutralise that with the evergreen Black hue for your dress (pun intended).
Experiment different materials for your dresses – such as velvet, sequins and jacquard, which are hot favourites for night-outs.
I think ASOS is truly a cut-out heaven with a wide variety of dresses in different styles and different perforation (literally) – check out the selection here.
The cut-outs would make a typical maxi dress or party gown more unique and contemporary.
Tips on rocking the Cut-Out:
- Less is more: unless you are very confident of yourself, you could choose to show more skin at one particular area. For example, side cut-outs could give an illusion of a slimmer waist, and keyhole or heart-shape cut-out at the front provide the perception of fuller bust.
- Less is more (ii): given that the cut-out patterns are already quite attention-seeking, you should keep the rest of your look simple. Eg, more natural makeup and simpler jewellery.
- Pick the right undergarment: Some dresses that boast cut-outs at the back or chest area would only permit you to wear stick-on bras, revealing the waist would imply no high-waist Spanx shaping shorts. Know your body well and understand what type of lingerie you would require to rock such designs.
