Chinese New Year is merely a month’s away and I am sure many of you are scouting for your brand new outfit for the occasion.
I have consolidated some new cheongsam dress collections from various online stores as a reference.
1. Joli Pretty
An online store that was launched last year, Joli Pretty has launched two new collections in conjunction with CNY. The above are my favorites from the latest collection, especially the mermaid skirt which is such a great idea! Price is about S$139 for each dress, and most dresses are of cotton material.
2. Lark & Peony
Lark & Peony will be launching at 3 different collections during this period: (from left) Pop Art, The Princess and Rhapsodie Bohemienne. Pop Art collection is a fun series that features old school milk cartons, zebra and banana prints. The Princess in Crimson, which is very apt for the Lunar New Year season, features a printed obi-inspired belt. Rhapsodie Bohemienne was inspired by ethnic prints and bold colours.
Lark & Peony is experimental with fabric and prints this season. Price ranges from S$148 to S$178 for each dress.
Another new online store specialising on cheongsam dresses, The Happy Cheongsam appears to target younger audience with their cute and vibrant prints, as well as novel designs. It takes youth and confidence to rock a colorful skirt printed with “catwalking cats”, for instance. Fabrics deployed on the cheongsams are quite varied, ranging from cotton to satin and polyester.
Price, however, is on the higher side compared to the other stores – at S$179 to S$209 for each dress.
I decided to add to this list a brick-and-mortar shop – indeed, the “Satine” at Orchard that is well-known for their bridal and evening gowns, also boasts elegant modern cheongsams that uses high quality silk and lace accents. The dresses are well-made, but are more elaborate and suitable for dinners and evening events.
Each dress would set you back by about S$690. You could contact the store directly to find out if they have other designs available.
PS: There are still a few stores that are not featured which I will leave them for Part 2. If you come across any other cheongsam stores or designers, please do not hesitate to drop me a note!
