Isn’t the natural no-makeup look the best of house visiting during Chinese New Year? To look approachable, effortless and radiant – but actually you know that we could rely on some makeup to achieve that effect.
Here are some products that I have tried from the above – as well as my personal stash to achieve that NUDE look.
1. Marc Jacobs Beauty Undercover Perfecting Coconut Face Primer
The primer is applied after the moisturizer and before the foundation. A good primer not only helps to smooth the skin to provide a silky canvas for your makeup, it also helps to make your foundation and powder last longer. This pretty product from Marc Jacobs Beauty is lightweight and evens out effortlessly on the skin. It feels like a light moisturizing gel and works great with my BB cushion (another killer product to fake a smooth complexion).
This is my go-to foundie since last year. There are 2 versions of this product and I go for the “Pore Control” one, which is suitable for oily skin. The product is very lightweight but has good coverage and leaves a smooth silky finish. You can imagine how potent the combination of Marc Jacobs Primer and the Laneige BB Cushion could bring – almost natural flawless skin!

I have raved about this product on the blog many, many times (detailed review here). In fact, I have not used any other concealer since I met the Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard in January 2013. It provides long-lasting and indisputable coverage. You will need it to cover blemishes and imperfections on your skin to rock that nude look. And this product is so popular that sometimes you need to get yourself on the waiting list at NARS counters.
Alternatively, you could try your luck at Sephora stores, as well as Changi Airport duty free.
4. NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder (S$50)
Another best-kept secret that looks underwhelming, but gives you that velvet finish and soft glow on the complexion. This product is pure magic.. I risk sounding overly exaggerated, but it’s like the icing on the cake. You could use it to touch up as well, if your face oils up during the day. To best apply the powder, you could consider using a kabuki face brush.

5. NARS Multiple in Copacabana (S$60)
When I first received this product in 2012, I did not really know how to use it. Nonetheless, I have grown older and wiser… actually I sought the advice from NARS and totally embrace this product as my must-have highlighter! It has just the right amount of light shimmer to reflect some light on your vital parts (of the face).
Gently glide the multiple from the edge of the eye to the area below the eye bag (upper cheek), and run this down the middle of the nose. Thank me later when people starts complimenting you on your newfound radiance.
In short, this is a moisturising coloured lip gloss. It helps to provide smoother, supple lips with a lovely beige shade. There are other shades available too, but my favourite is “Honey” which imparts a nude/beige look, and “Cherry” – a brighter red that gives your lips a dash of.. life. I used it at temperate climates too and it not only provides colour on my lips without looking overly made-up, but it really does condition and treat the lips well on such drier environment.
Lipsticks could be too drying for some ladies, so I would highly recommend this product from Fresh as your daily “lipstick/gloss/balm” (whatever you wanna call it)!
