… is the one that they do on your face, you know one of ‘em ‘plump-up’ facials?

Because while my pregnancy has the unfortunate side effect of face-fattening, the postpartum period also introduces another… wrinkles.

And it seems to me they are coming on fast and furious and have no intention of leaving my face, like the residual pregnancy weight! How hard it is for those last 4 kilos to just disappear!

Anyway, as soon as I managed to get a babysitter for Keri, I booked myself an appointment at Spa Esprit at my choice location, Dempsey: because post-facial is often a terrifyingly hideous affair, it’s best that I can just duck into the car immediately after treatment so my uber red face (my skin is slightly on the sensitive skin, so any knick will leave very obvious marks and redness)  will not see the light of day and scare the wits out of passersby.

Besides with a nerve and eye-soothing view like this, it’s a no-brainer for me.

At the risk of getting lashed (no pun intended) out on left right and centre, let me tell you my struggle with eye creams: I didn’t believe that they work.

I used to write on health and beauty topics for a couple of local magazines back in the day and was inundated everyday by beauty products — from mascaras and hair serums to foundation and of course, eye creams. I enjoyed working on the makeup stories because I could see immediately whether that shade of concealer would melt like second skin or if the mascara really made my eyes pop. But when the stash of eye creams started bursting out of the office drawers it was hard to ignore them anymore.

guestcontributor1Today, I would like to introduce Adlena, our new contributor on MsGlitzy.com. Some of you may be familiar with her – after all, she had shown us her makeup pouch 2 Christmases ago.

Adlena recently became a Mum and she will be sharing with us some Mummy beauty and fashion tips on the blog. I’m very excited to read her posts! I hope you’ll enjoy them too.

Five months after I had my baby, Keri, I must say I’m missing my glowing pregnancy skin.

In my early stages of pregnancy I was warned of the perils of being pregnant; be prepared for crazy breakouts on your chest and neck like I had, recalled one fellow mummy friend. I had freckles popping up all over my face!, said the other.

Much to their chagrin, I was one of the few lucky ones: for the whole 40 weeks, my skin had never been better. My “kuali”(read: oily wok) face was non existent and I could get by entire days just with translucent powder, blusher and eyeliner. Yep, no concealer, no foundation whatsoever.Thank you Keri for making mummy pretty, I would say quietly to myself as I rubbed my belly.

Now that she’s out, I’m not saying my skin took to a sudden worse, but it’s just not as radiant and oil-free as before. No thanks to late night feedings and just general ennui and fatigue of having to manage a small business while juggling the needs of an infant and doing household chores on a daily basis.

So what can I do to hide at least some of those imperfections just so my clients and co-workers won’t think that I’m going to crumble in front of them from exhaustion just by looking at my face?

I have six skincare saving graces:

beautypouchiris1The second target of our “beauty pouch revelation”  is Iris Chai, Assistant Brand Manager of Shiseido, based in Singapore.

Having known Iris since my very first encounter with Shiseido, this affable lady has been working at the company for more than 5 years, constantly keeping us abreast of the company’s new products and updating us with information on the latest season’s makeup trends and looks.

Of course, other than chatting about makeup, we had spent time talking about our common interests such as traveling, shopping and just life in general. My first question to Iris when I invited her for this series was somewhat made in jest. But yes, I am nosy like that.

“How many Shiseido products do you have in your beauty pouch?”

In what’s becoming a Christmas tradition for MsGlitzy.com, I have resurrected my guest contribution section again. This year, I have invited a few friends – who are also expert in the beauty arena - to share the contents of their beauty pouches. I am not sure whether you are curious about which items others are using, but I am definitely looking forward to their revelations!

The first person to kick off this series is Adlena Wong, PR practitioner at Platform Public Relations by day, home-proud and Donna Hay wannabe by night. Adlena’s first brush with beauty was at her first jobs – lifestyle, beauty and health writer at the leading female glossies in Singapore. With years of trial and error, her beauty favorites certainly do not come by chance but through personal experiences and interactions with beauty experts.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at what’s in her pouch!

One day, I received an email from local label, Trioon, about their new collection. I checked out the website and found the designer, Wei Ling, looked vaguely familiar. Upon further correspondence, we confirmed that we were high school band mates. She was my senior who played the baritone saxophone! Gosh, isn’t that an amazing discovery? I am so happy for her and her label. Do check out Trioon at Mandarin Gallery, #03-28 and support Wei Ling!

Daphne was my college mate, and I wonder if she remembers this factoid that we belonged to the same group at orientation camp. Yes, I am referring to the camp where there is ragging session in the day, and scary ghost walk in the night.  Fast forward 10 years later, she is mom to two adorable children, and shares her motherhood adventures at Mother, Inc. Don’t believe her when she claims to be an “auntie”. Daphne is definitely one of the coolest moms in town!

I’ve always loved making Christmas wishlists when I was a kid. I was that irritating kid who would wish for a million wishes but only because it was the only way I could think of to make Christmas last forever. I’ve since figured out that half the fun is in deciding on the 25 things I really, really, really wanted. The other half is getting them, of course. And yes, I have a 25-item (it’s a lot less than a million) Christmas wishlist, but relax, I’m only going to share my top 3 today.

I’m going to start with the third item and work my way up to numero uno.

3. Dior 61 Havana Honey sunglasses.
