If you have been reading Miss Glitzy’s Monologue long enough, you should be familiar with Dottie!! I got to know her through blogging and as she worked really near my area, we often arrange to go to blogger events together. I’m really happy that she is gonna start her own site soon. Do visit Story of a Dot for now and promise me you will support her new site when it’s up, ok?

1. The Wholesome Awesome Fashion Item

You can do so much with these colour pieces of cloth if you’ll just use a little creativity! They brighten up an otherwise nondescript outfit and let you get away with under-dressing in some cases.

2. The Wholesome Awesome Beauty Item

I love this because it works wonders when you sleep – plumper, brighter skin when you wake up the next morning. Its also perfect for those lazy nights when you can barely keep awake and you’re too tired to slap on your night cream. Slather on a generous amount and you’re good to go.

I don’t care what other ramen fanatics say, Marutama is the best ramen in town! This never fails to perk me up no matter how bad the day has been. The best part: the hard-boiled egg with the orange, gooey centre.

(Marutama Ramen is located at #03-90-91, Central Shopping Mall)

Thanks Dot! You should make a living selling customised scarf necklaces! I’m sure many ladies out there would be interested to buy!

I got to know Hitomi via my blog, as she commented on my posts regularly. She really knows a lot about fashion, skincare and food and has been very helpful with her constructive comments!

1. The Wholesome Awesome Fashion Item

It’s got to be the Little Black Dress. It’s a part of Chanel’s culture that everyone can own. LBDs are my staples, meaning I wear them everyday! I don’t have that many, but I’m working on building the collection to 365 pieces so I’ll have different LBDs to wear all year round.

(Note from Miss Glitzy: Haha! Reminds me of my university professor who wore only black and he looked good!)

2. The Wholesome Awesome Beauty Item

Chanel White Essentiel Whitening Modeling Effect Base in Rosee. It’s sunscreen + make up base, and is a fabulous 2-in-1 item! With SPF30/PA+++, it is a good sunscreen against the potent sun. The texture is light, dries fast and leaves no sticky residue. Love the light reflecting particles that give my face a radiant glow with or without foundation – although when used without foundation, it makes my skin appear VERY bright. On extreme lazy circumstances, one can still look quite polished by just using this product.

3. The Wholesome Awesome Food

Comfort food = family meals. However, being far from home means I need to take care of all my meals. There’s something about “breakfast” anytime of the day that appeals to me. Scrambled eggs, bacon and fluffy pancakes are my favourite. This is an awesome video on how to make scrambled eggs and it’s fool proof – even my bf’s first attempt was very successful! I use whipping cream instead of Crème fraîche because it’s more widely available.

Also, here is my recipe for fluffy pancakes:

Fluffy pancakes (serves 2):
Flour: 6 tablespoons
Milk: 4 tablespoons
2 eggs
Sugar: 2-3 tablespoons depending on taste
A pinch of salt
Butter for frying

1) Separate egg whites from yolks.
2) Mix yolks + milk + flour. Sift to avoid lumps.
3) Add salt to eggwhites and beat till soft peaks are formed, gradually adding sugar and beating till stiff peaks.
4) Carefully fold yolk mix into eggwhites
5) Fry the batter in hot pan

*The measurements of the ingredients are a rough gauge. I often tweak the quantity of flour/milk to achieve another texture of pancakes.

I am craving for all-day breakfast! Thanks Hitomi for sharing the recipes, and the Chanel make-up base looks like good stuff!

I got to know Esther – the one-half of Ourtravelations.com – formally via blogging  but interestingly, our paths kinda crossed a few years ago.:)

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the picks from the seasoned traveller:

I’m an avid traveller – my freelance writer job requires me to be on the go as well – and basically, I’m a simple gal. I hardly wear any make-up and my skincare regime is minimal. So, things on my Wholesome Awesome list have to be practical and if possible, have multiple uses. I am also trying to live my life more meaningfully, thinking about the environment and doing things, including eating, more sustainably and healthily.

I try to pick products based on these requirements/principles, wherever possible.

1. The Wholesome Awesome Fashion Item

A shawl in a neutral shade, preferably from a social enterprise or co-operative

Mine is a stripey one, in shades of brown – light brown; brown; bronze. It has tassels at the ends too haha!

My shawl has come with me to so many places and served various purposes. I’ve used it when it got too chilly at nice dinners, when I needed to cover up my bare shoulders and sleeveless arms on visits to temples or other religious sites, when I needed to fashion a small satchel to carry random light items, and so on.

Get yours at eBay World of Good (http://worldofgood.ebay.com/) or one of the shops featured on Elevyn (http://www.elevyn.com/shop_list) or better still, knit your own with a kit from DoThingsDifferent (http://www.dothingsdifferent.com/).

2. The Wholesome Awesome Beauty Item

Eco Tints Tinted Lip Care by Eco Lips

This tinted lipbalm is fabulous. It moisturises my lips with organic plant oils, beeswax and aloe vera. The tinge of colour, from natural minerals, is dark enough – if you apply about two to three layers – to replace a dark red lipstick, for when you need heavier make-up. I like it too that the company, Eco Lips, contributes to various charitable causes.

I got mine in Plush Red from Watsons for less than S$10 (if I remember correctly).

3. The Wholesome Awesome Food

Instant noodles/cup noodles

I love instant noodles. But they are soooo junky! I think that’s why I like them. Plus they’re portable, easy to cook and they remind me of the simple things in life. If I’m going somewhere for a long period, I try to pack a few along with me, if I know I can’t get them at my destination.

And in an attempt to make this comfort food healthier, I try to buy those that are baked (instead of fried) and use as much natural ingredients as possible.

Try the Koka brand – besides being steamed and baked, the noodles are said to be preservative-free, have no MSG and contain no trans-fat. They even have a new-fangled one with purple wheat.

Thanks Esther! And “High 5″ to a fellow instant noodles lover.. I order instant noodles from Korean restaurants and Hong Kong cafes! No kidding!

My friend, Sgprincess, has also joined in the Wholesome Awesome fun!

I am really grateful for her strong support towards my blog and for hearing me out all the time.

1. The Wholesome Awesome Fashion Item

The right pair of shoes to punctuate your outfit and exclaim how you feel. (Anyone thinking BOOMZ yet?)

2. The Wholesome Awesome Beauty Item

Ask Darwin and he’ll agree that it is important to have smooth, healthy lips. Ditch the lipstick that does a poor imitation of what you were born with. Make-up is all about enhancing what you naturally have, no? My family swears by Neutrogena Lip Moisturizer. And the best part about it is that it doesn’t leave sticky streaks on your face when the wind catches your hair in the wrong direction!

3. The Wholesome Awesome Food

Anything I bake. I take comfort in the process (not so much in the aftermath of not being able to squeeze into my jeans!). Today’s comfort food: Apple Pie.

Thanks Sgprincess! I’m feeling hungry after staring at the photos of your apple pie!

Forrest Gump said “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you gonna get.”

Reader Ferreroroche, on the other hand, describes “Life is a Mystery! Explore it!”

Let’s take a look at her Wholesome Awesome List!

1. The Wholesome Awesome Fashion Item

As I am only four feet nine, wedges are really a must for me because heels are just too painful. The selections of strappy wedges from Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring collection 2010 has really been my inspiration.

2. The Wholesome Awesome Beauty Item

My hydrosols. What is a hydrosol? Simply put, they are floral water – steam distilled plants and flowers that create pure liquid to be used as a hydration liquid, I use them as quick pick-me-up and as a toner.

There are many types of hydrosols, but my favourite amongst all that I have tried is the rose geranium hydrosol. Everyone complimented me on my skin when I was using it. Now I am using the Lemon balm(Melissa) hydrosol. The effect is not as good, as I get some breakouts now and then. But the Lemon balm helps to even out my skin tone nicely that I rarely need foundation these days.

3. The Wholesome Awesome Food

Soupy noodles like ramen, instant noodles, ban mian, fish soup bee hoon, la mian.. all of these are my absolute comfort food!

Thanks Ferreroroche! I think the hydrosols that she mentioned are really interesting!

I am busy at the moment but thanks to my fellow readers and friends, this blog will not be neglected. I have started the “Wholesome Awesome” list and the first one to kick-off this series is none other than my blogger friend, AngMoGirl. Also known as Shilka, she is born in Poland and has been based in Singapore since August 2008.

1. The Wholesome Awesome Fashion Item

The “A-line” dress, because it’s both girly and elegant, and works wonders for any body type.

2. The Wholesome Awesome Beauty Item

That would be my Insurance Policy High Impact Eye Shadow Collection – because it’s one product, with 6 shadows of awesome quality that lets me create a variety of looks! It’s nicely packed, durable and not tested on animals.

3. The Wholesome Awesome Food

Nothing cheers me up like Ritter Sport chocolate. I love the satisfaction of hunting down a rare or new flavor ;)

Thanks Shilka for your help!!
