While I would argue the Cheongsam can be worn at any time and any occasion, it is undeniable that they are more popular during the Chinese New Year season.

I have rounded up some cheongsam dresses available in Singapore – take your pick!

The 4th level of Tangs Orchard has been transformed to a local fashion haven for a week. Collections from local designers such as Chalk, Yumumu, Own Muse, Peter Kor and Hansel are available at Style Space on 4 (the fourth level of the departmental store) from now till 22nd May 2011. On Friday, there was a short fashion show to showcase designs from these local labels.

This year will be my first Chinese New Year spent in Singapore! I’ve already seen tons of red and gold decorations on the streets and inside homes, but why not try a different theme party this year? Make your CNY 2011 memorable by matching your outfit to your home. Not only is it the perfect time for some re-decoration, your guests over the holidays are sure to notice it too.

I’ve been inspired by local Singaporean fashion designers to create some themes for your new year’s festivities. Check them out below and have a great new year!

I received the photos of two collections recently and I was impressed by how they combine uniqueness and wearability at the same time. For boys and girls who are trying to break out of the usual corporate wear, these can good choices for you to consider!

adidas SLVR

My impression of adidas has been limited to its sportswear. The SLVR label is a more classic and stylish line and I spied some pieces which the guys can wear to the office!

Recently, I was introduced to a new local label: Chalk. The debut collection was sweet mixture of bows, dots and stripes.

The photos on the website looked great but I decided to pop by one of the stores to check out the pieces. Here are some pieces that I tried on:

1. Dotti Dress (S$169)

This is a very interesting multi-way dress. You can wear the dress in cap sleeves, halter or bareback.  While I’m not quite a fan of uniform polka dots, I love the innovative design and the contrast between the pattern and the silk material. There is another version of this dress which is navy blue stripes on white.

2. Dotti Bow Jacket (S$169)

This is actually quite a well-made jacket with flattering cutting and details. I think it is smart for work with a whimsical touch with the polka-dotted cuffs!

3. Dotti Bow Dress (S$169)

This is my favourite piece! The dress is really cute but not overly cutesy! I love the capelet design and the flirty georgette material. The skirt length is quite modest although I thought it would be really short judging the photos on the website. If you are looking for a unique and comfortable tea party dress, this is it!

All the pieces are available in size S to L. I tried on the Size L and they fit me (UK size 12) like a tee!

Chalk is stocked at Soon Lee, 56 Haji Lane Level 2, Epitome at 14C Kensington Park Road, Eclecticism Online shop, Odette at Chevron House and at To The Nines at Orchard Central.
