Happy Year of the Monkey! How was all the feasting and house visits?

I was very excited to be wearing this two-piece cheongsam set from Lark & Peony this year. It is one of my favourites amongst all the other dresses that I have worn.

Happy Lunar New Year! Feels hard coming back to reality after the whole weekend of feasting, isn’t it?

Here’s sharing my two cheongsam outfits during the Chinese New Year festivities. I have been trying to experiment other designs rather than the tried and tested sleeveless and flare contemporary dresses that are now getting very mainstream.

I went for a full red almost-traditional cut cheongsam dress, thinking that there’s only one period in the year where we could dress up like a humungous red packet (angbao). My motto for the day: GO RED OR GO HOME!

This is part 2 and final instalment of the Chinese New Year 2015 edition. If you have yet to start shopping for your Chinese New Year outfit, there’s still time. You may wish to refer to my previous posts here and here.

Chinese New Year is merely a month’s away and I am sure many of you are scouting for your brand new outfit for the occasion.

I have consolidated some new cheongsam dress collections from various online stores as a reference.

On Saturday, I had the opportunity to meet with Mr Christian Louboutin (yes – the God of sexy shoes) and for this special occasion, I decided to channel some chinoiserie  chic with this Lark and Peony cheongsam dress in “Midnight Bamboo” print.

I decided to accentuate the print with a dash of red.

There are a few reasons why this showcase at AFF deserves a lot of applauses.

First, this is Ong Shunmugam‘s first solo show at Audi Fashion Festival. In 2012, it was showcased at Future Fashion Now, and last year it was one-half of an local emerging designers showcase at AFF. It’s amazing how the designer and her collections has grown over the years.

Second, I was delighted to see Priscilla Shunmugam go back to Mandarin-inspired designs, with more imaginative interpretations of the cheongsam this year.

This design, in my opinion, is one of the highlights of the entire collection, named “From the Real to the Chimerical“. A clash of ethnic prints and retro chevron matched with a collision of feminine fit and architectural elements.

This was what I wore on the first day of Chinese New Year, otherwise known as “Spring Festival” as it marks the first day of the Lunar Calendar, and the first day of Spring season.

Nonetheless, the unique colours of the cheongsam dress is reminiscent of Autumn, don’t you think?
