I recently watched a Chinese romantic comedy “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” starring Daniel Wu, Louis Ku and a Chinese actress Gao Yuan Yuan. The setting of the movie was mostly in Hong Kong Central and there were a few landmarks that I could identify with.

One of which was obviously Caffe Habitu, a name that I have frequently mentioned at my Twitter or Facebook, but not so much on this blog. Caffe Habitu is a cozy lifestyle cafe with Italian influence, and there are several outlets in Hong Kong.

Gao Yuan Yuan was waiting for Louis Ku and he got distracted by another lady at Pacific Coffee – which is indeed beside Caffe Habitu at Hutchison House in Central – and never turned up for the date.

The T SpotMiss Glitzy is a Sex and The City fan and undoubtedly, the series had left a great impact on Miss Glitzy’s impression of life in Manhattan.

There was this particular scene in Season 3 when Carrie and Miranda were chatting over cupcakes. Carrie ‘fessed up to Miranda that she has a crush and the guy is Aidan.

The girls were having cute pastel pink cupcakes outside the Magnolia Bakery at Bleecker Street. (By the way, the bench they were sitting on is non-existent in real life) When Miss Glitzy the sweet tooth was planning her visit to NYC, Magnolia Bakery naturally became the Number 1 Must Visit spot.

The dessert shop is tucked in the West Village which is a residential district and a few blocks from 14 street subway station. Walking along West Village in the early morning felt different from the rest of the city. It felt more laid-back and peaceful. While Magnolia is clearly famous from its appearance in SATC and even The Devil Wears Prada, the tiny shop looked modest and old-school, complete with girlish white curtains, traditional glass jars and paper dollies!

Miss Glitzy was too distracted by the sweet colours of the cupcakes and bought a vanilla icing in chocolate buttermilk and vanilla cupcake each (US$2), 1 chocolate vanilla cake (US$2) and 1 special Easter cupcake (US$2.50). Magnolia Bakery had since increased their price by US$0.50 according to the website.

Savoured the cupcakes at the courtyard of Columbia University and it was quite the experience! Miss Glitzy was sure that the Columbia pigeons were staring at the cakes and waiting to lay their beaks on it. Regretted not buying another chocolate cream cupcake because it tasted better than the others. The icing was crazily sweet.

The cupcakes may not be that mind-blowing but a visit to the shop was indeed memorable for a SATC fangirl!
