As part of my 2013 fashion resolutions, I decide to attempt bolder makeup colours that I would never imagine myself wearing. My inspiration for this look - the Lomo Fisheye Baby Bauhaus that I managed to get hold of recently.

The key colours were blue, yellow and red. All primary colours!

L’Oréal Paris recently launched their series of nail stickers, which has stunning 3D effect. How does it compare with Sally Hansen Salon Effects?

I am using the L’Oréal Paris Color Riche Le Nail Art in 006 Python. The stickers have neat embossed effect and stunning gold accent.

I hardly review drugstore cosmetics on this blog. But I have recently discovered some gems that come in pocket-friendly prices and good quality.

I totally understand that when it comes to beauty, sloth is intolerable. When it comes to make-up on a “hardworking” day, the falsies probably have a role to play in emphasizing the peepers. But yes, I am a beauty sloth for X% of my life and when there are little minutes and seconds left for the falsies, the mascara comes to the rescue.

So, today I would like to share with you my current favourite mascara and lash serum. One helps to create volume instantly while the other nurtures volume gradually.

L’Oréal Paris has recently launched a limited edition quad palette series known as Open Eyes Chrome Intensity. This series comes in 4 different types of bold shades complete with a dazzling gold cover and a beautiful butterfly motif!

I tried out the “Magic Amber” palette, which consists of the Magic Amber colour, Champagne gold highlighter, Addictive Yellow and Open Deep Brown.

The eye shadow is really befitting of its name. Intense is the right word to describe the palette  as the colour shows up very strongly upon one application. Magic Amber is a very nice orange-gold shade and I used it as a liner for the bottom eye lid too.

I like that the eye shadow glides very well on the eye lids and the shades in the palette blend nicely with each other. There are little specks of glitters for a multi-dimensional effect, although the colours are not shimmery. This is good for girls with oily eyelids like me and is really a breeze to apply!

The Open Eyes Chrome Intensity palette is available Watsons, Guardian and major departmental stores at S$19.90.

L’Oréal Paris is giving away an exclusive $50 cosmetics hamper to a lucky reader.

I have been thinking of experimenting with brighter lip colours and just as I was considering which bright red lippy to buy, I received a collection of cosmetics from L’Oreal Paris today. To my delight, they included a bright red lipstick (646 Red Passion) from the Color Riche collection.

Here is how the red rouge looks on me:

Tips on wearing the Red Lips:

1. Unless it’s Halloween, keep it simple. Eyeliner, mascara and a very light dust of blusher would do the trick. If you really can’t live without your fake eyelashes, go for the natural-looking ones.

2. It is important to shape your lips nicely so that you look polished. Simply use a lip brush to create an accurate and defined shape.

3. For the lip color to last, use a lip stain (eg. Benetint) before you apply the lipstick. If you would like to add a wee bit of shine, add some lip gloss over the lipstick.

4. Contrary to popular belief that red lipstick is only for fair girls, girls with darker skin colours can wear red lip colors very well too!

5. For a safe bet, keep your outfit simple to avoid looking too dramatic.

If you are uncertain about the Red Lips but you are keen to give it a shot, I suggest you can look at the cheaper drugstore offerings. A number of brands have released bright lip colors for this new season. The L’Oreal Paris Color Riche lipstick retails at S$19.90.
