In case you haven’t noticed, the retro revival trend is hitting us fast and furious this season. Poofy hair, red lips, bright florals and wearable silhouette. It’s easily said and can be easily done.  Quod erat demonstrandum.

Mod dress and gingham are essentials of the 60s! These 2 outfits above are from the upcoming Banana Republic “Mad Men” collection, that is designed in collaboration with the popular TV drama set in the era of course. The easiest way to embrace the 60s trend is simply to refer to this collection and their looks.

With the sweltering heat comes a reminder that Summer is finally approaching. Has anyone booked your beach vacay?

Here are some recommendations for your new swim outfit that allows you to flaunt your sexy bod. :)

H&M 2-piece swim suit (Top: S$24.90, Bottom: S$17.90)

Forget about tan lines. The netted detail at the front of the bandeau bikini, together with the rustic tie dye print, exude tribal appeal in this very hot summer.

Our “bathing suit” has undergone several eras and evolution, with the 1950s known widely as the “golden era” of women’s swimwear. It was during this era that corseted style “maillots” became popular and contestants started strutting in swimwear at beauty pageants.

With the whole retro trend coming back in Spring/Summer this year, we see a similar revival in swimsuit styles today! Yes, “more is more” and sunbathing in your one-piece swimsuit can be rather sexy today.

My guy friend told me, the notion of sexy is to straddle between the gray area of  “revealing but not so revealing”.

Based on that theory, the bikini is passe. Get yourself a monokini for your summer getaway holiday!

(from left) Aeropostale Peace Dot Monokini US$34.50 | Wetseal Tie-Dye Open Monokini US$12 | Xhilaration® Juniors One Piece Criss Cross Monokini Swimsuit (Target) US$29.99

(from left) ASOS Cruise Digital Floral Print Cupped Suit With Back Bow £35 | Hobie “Coachella” Monokini Swimsuit (Dilliards) US$40 | Kimchi Blue Striped Sailor One Piece (Urban Outfitters) US$88

Uneven tan lines aside, the monokini helps to give the illusion of a slimmer silhouette. If you have a flabby tummy, go for a monokini with small cut-outs. If you have fuller boobs, go for one with a deep plunging neckline.

The best part, wear a skirt or shorts and you are ready to head out of your beach villa.

Have an enjoyable summer holiday!
